Trigonidium egertonianum

Dragon's Mouth Orchid

Belize - March 2014

Trigonidium egertonianum is one of only a few orchids from the Neotropics that is pollinated by sexual deception, tricking male bees into thinking the flower is a female bee and in the process of trying to dislodge the "female" picks up or deposits pollen. It is found from Mexico to Columbia up to altitudes of around 1200m, often close to streams or ponds, in areas where there is a seasonal climate.
